Wind Seasons

To check the kite spot forecast click here. Please note this is never extremely accurate and you can add three knots to the reading. Best results are 1 or 2 days ahead. There are 2 wind seasons in Kenya which are perfect for kitesurfing lessons and kite surfing progression. The wind blows the same all along the entire coast of East Africa so there is no risk of not having wind in any one location. The wind in Kenya are trade winds meaning they are constant and reliable year to year and the wind depends on the raining seasons and dry seasons and vary year to year, but this approximate pattern applies:

KUSI – June 20th to Sept 20th
KASKAZI – Dec 20th to April 20th

Kite Sizes

more than 70kg 10-14 metre kites

less than 70kg 7-12 metre kites

Stand Up Paddlesurfing

This is the latest trend in watersports and is a fantastic alternative when the wind is too light. It involves a longboard (11ft) and a paddle. On flat water one can paddle around exploring and getting great exercise. On waves one can surf even the smallest ripple in true old school style!

Surfing

One day board rental €35

Officially, Kenyaways and H20 Extreme does not deal with surfing however, as we are in the hobby of surfing ourselves, and if you are a travelling surfer with your own board you may want to enquire with us about conditions and surfspots. We can also organize boat transport depending on availability. The season for decent sized waves (2ft – 4ft) is from April – Sept. There is also a good spot for those that would like to learn how to surf or for beginners all year round.
